5 Great RI Spots to Watch the Super Bowl and Grab a Bite

Thursday, January 30, 2014

As sad as we are that the Patriots season has ended, Super Bowl Sunday always gets us excited. We set out to find 5 cool spots to enjoy the Super Bowl and came back with these...

South Street Café, Providence

The wing champs live! Not that you need an excuse to partake in wings, but Super Bowl Sunday is all about wings, but you might as well eat your share of the 1.3 billion chicken wings Americans will consume on Sunday. With over 30 kinds of near perfect wings at your messy, messy fingertips, we wish your cardiologist luck.

Snooker's, Providence

This spot is all about the giant television, the retro-hip architecture and the crave-worthy bar food. Oh yeah...and pool if the game stinks! There are screens all over the joint, so missing a play isn't an issue. The kitchen has you covered, too. Pizzas, panini and wraps tempt along with fun appetizers. The sweet chile calamari and the fried pickles are both very good. Don't forget the entrees either. The black and tan fish and chips were some of the best we've had outside of an Irish pub.

Doherty's Ale House, Warwick

The big boy of the Doherty's chain seems to have hit its stride. The food and service have caught up to the size of the newest location in the group. Located high on the hill just off I-95 on Jefferson Boulevard, this location features dark woods and beer taps as far as the eye can see. The food is more upscale than some of their other locales and the menu incorporates beer into more dishes. Check the Harpoon IPA pretzels or the Philly eggrolls for good game-time apps.

The Mews Tavern, Wakefield

Our summertime favorite doubles as a perfect spot to enjoy the big game. The Mews has long been a top destination for a huge beer selection and delicious bar food. On a game day, this place hums. There are TVs everywhere; they feature four separate large screens along with the smaller ones that give almost every booth a view. The burgers, wings, nachos and cold drafts will keep you happy. Check out the Dr. Pepper jack burger with Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce.

Blackie's Bull Dog Tavern, Smithfield

Blackie's Bull Dog has been a reliable spot for diners on the western side of the state for several years now. Chef Angie Armenise has fashioned a menu full of perfect bites for enjoying the game. This is comfort food and bar food taken to new heights. We love the chef's diner fries with house smoked meats, stout caramelized onion gravy and melted cheddar over perfectly made fries. The burgers are to die for also. We will return for another crack at the flatbreads...they looked tasty.
